책 [SCHOOL]의 번역이 마무리를 향해 간다. 이제 마지막 한 챕터 번역이 남았다. 물론, 초역만으로 실제 출판으로 곧장 이어지지는 않는다. 2024년 1월부터 초역 읽기 공개 세미나를 했으니, 꼬박 1년이 걸린 셈이다.
The translation of the book [SCHOOL] is heading towards completion. Only one final chapter remains to be translated. Of course, a rough translation doesn’t immediately lead to publication. Since we started the public seminar for reviewing the initial translation in January 2024, it has taken a full year.
한편, 사실상 한 권의 책에 가까운 프로젝트 역시 전반부 번역이 끝나간다. Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW의 후원으로 잉고 니어만을 위해 진행하는 작업이다. https://wildpapers.ch
생각해보니, 번역해야 할 책은 세 권이 더 있다.
- 다극화된 세계에서 예술의 위치에 관한 책
- 한옥의 건축에 관한 책
- 디자인이 할 수 없는 것에 관한 책
첫 번째는 출판사를 통해, 두 번째는 전통문화를 보존하는 재단을 통해, 세 번째는 출판사를 통하겠지만 자발적인 경로를 통해 발간하게 된다. 이 셋을 앞으로 6개월에서 1년 안에 완수할 수 있을까? 사실 번역하고 싶은 책이 하나 더 있는데, 판권을 누가 확보하고 있는지도 모르고 책을 출간하길 바라는 출판사가 있는지도 모른다. 참 좋은 책인데… 이 책은 ‘미술 시장’에 관한 책이다.

Meanwhile, another project – which is practically book-length – is also nearing completion of its first half translation. This is a collaborative work with Ingo Niermann with support from the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW. https://wildpapers.ch
Come to think of it, I have three more books to translate:
- A book about art’s position in a multipolar world
- A book about Hanok (traditional Korean house) architecture
- A book about what design cannot do
The first will be through a publisher, the second through a foundation preserving traditional culture, and the third through a publisher but via a voluntary route. Can I complete these three within 6 months to a year?
There’s actually a fourth book I’m eager to translate – a fascinating work on ‘the art market’ – but I’m uncertain about both the copyright holder and potential publisher interest.
